The Barrio of Gràcia The barrio of Gràcia is quite a large area covering not only the main village of Gracia but the area around Parc Guell and above Ronda de Dalt called Vallcarca and Els Penitents. Vila de Gràcia
Originally Gracia was a village outside of the city of Barcelona but as Barcelona expanded it encompassed Gracia. The central main part of Gracia is called Vila de Gracia. Gracia retains its village atmosphere and although it has a trendy young reputation there is also an established older community which means Gracia keeps it's local atmosphere. There are plenty of small individual shops, good markets, bars, restaurants and cinemas – all within walking distance of the main city and with good transport.
Gracia can be a bit noisy, but there is always something happening, and if you avoid the main squares it's possible to find a quieter area to live. La Salut Slightly higher than the main village and above Travessera de Dalt the territory becomes steep and includes the famous Park Güell which Gaudi designed and built, this barrio is called La Salut. From here you can get great views across the city to the sea. Camp d'en Grassot i Gracia Nova
Bordering the right edge of Vila de Gracia, to the other side of Passeig de Sant Joan, and extending slightly into the grid of Eixample, is the barrio called Camp d'en Grassot i Gracia Nova. El Coll Immediately above La Salut and Park Guell is El Coll, a little further from the city and incorporating Parc Creueta del Coll, this area definitely has a less urban feel to it. VallcarcaFinally at the uppermost corner lies Vallcarca and els Penitents. Vallcarca lies just to the right of the higher part of Sant Gervasi and is incorporated in the description "zona alta". Further out of the city but with good transport on the green metro line and plenty of buses.
